How to create autoresponders quickly and easily at GetResponse

Emails that are sent automatically save you an incredible amount of work. And GetResponse has not just one, but two options to set up such automatic messages!

One possibility is what is known as marketing automation. This is very extensive. You have almost no limits when it comes to automated messages and entire workflows.

The special thing about marketing automation : It works action-based , ie an action occurs that then triggers the workflow. Such an action can be anything:

  • registration via a specific form
  • opening a message
  • clicking on a link
  • getting a day

The other option are autoresponders . These only work on a time basis , i.e. they are sent on predetermined days. And that's exactly what we're looking at in this tutorial!

You can also find a tutorial on marketing automation here on the blog.

Here is an overview of all GetResponse tutorials:

What makes the GetResponse autoresponder so special?

Of course, other providers also offer the option of sending emails automatically. The principle is always the same.

However, I have to honestly say that I have not yet found any other option that is so clear and easy to create as with GetResponse!

The autoresponder function is simple: you can set up the autoresponder within a few minutes. As many as you want, e-mail series that last longer than a month are theoretically possible here (open at the top)!

I just like it when I get the desired result as uncomplicated as possible, and that is definitely the case with GetResponse autoresponders.

I also have a detailed test report for you in which I briefly introduce you to the most important functions, compare the advantages and disadvantages and explain why I think GetResponse is so good: GetResponse Test

What are the autoresponders good for?

Good question, because with marketing automation you can theoretically map exactly the same thing: emails that are sent automatically on a specific day.

The whole thing would be much more complex, which is why I still like to use the autoresponder. For my welcome emails !

If someone signs up for your newsletter, you should definitely send them a welcome email immediately after signing up. In this you can deliver the freebie and give your new subscribers an insight into what to expect in your newsletter.

Thanks to the autoresponder, you can turn the welcome email into a whole welcome series. In e-mails that are sent over a period of a week, for example, you show what new subscribers can expect from you.

The GetResponse autoresponders are also ideal for challenges that last, for example, 5 or 7 days (and which you can offer as a super freebie)!

GetResponse autoresponders: overview

Now that we've got the theoretical basics cleared up, it's getting practical and we're looking at how exactly you can set up the autoresponders now!

In the new GetResponse design, the autoresponders even have their own menu item, so you can easily get there via the menu.

There are then two different views:

a list of all autoresponders, here you can see the opening and click rates directly

a calendar view, here you can see clearly which mail is being sent and when

GetResponse autoresponder: Calendar view

Here you can see that I set up an autoresponder on day 0. This is the welcome email that is sent directly after registration!

You can also filter your contact lists here. Basically, you set up your own autoresponder for each list .

Here's how to create a new autoresponder

To create a new autoresponder, either click on the "Create new" button at the top right or move the mouse over the field for the day for which you want to set up the autoresponder, here for example on day 3:

Create a new autoresponder

An overview will then open in which you can define all settings for the autoresponder.

Let's start with the basics:

Name: Here you should enter something that you can clearly assign and recognize

On the day: Here comes the corresponding day on which the autoresponder should be sent

On the list: Here you select the appropriate list

After that it gets more interesting.

Send message:

Here you define when exactly the message should be sent. You have three options:

At registration time: if someone signs up for your newsletter at 5 p.m., the autoresponder will also be sent at 5 p.m.

delayed by:

sends the autoresponder with a delay of 1 to 23 hours, depending on what you specify - I would not recommend this option

exactly at:

here you can set a specific time at which the autoresponder should be sent

Important:

If you set an autoresponder day 0, you also have the option "immediately", which you should definitely select. After all, the welcome email should really be sent directly after registration!

Activate on:

Here you can specify whether the autoresponder should be sent every day of the week.

For example, if you always send your regular newsletter on Wednesdays, it can make sense to exclude Wednesdays from the autoresponders. Otherwise, your subscribers will get two emails from you a day, which could be a lot depending on the situation.

Remember not to exclude a day from the welcome email (on day 0)!

GetResponse Autoresponder: Compose a message

Now, of course, the message itself, which should be sent automatically, is still missing! You have two options for this: you can either select a message that already exists, or you can create a completely new one.

Select a message:

The feature is really a very practical one! For example, you can send newsletters that you have sent to your list and that are particularly valuable to new subscribers as an autoresponder.

You can choose between newsletters, autoresponders and drafts for the news.

It is therefore also possible, for example, to create an autoresponder that is already sent to another list here, without having to do all the work twice.

GetResponse Autoresponder: Select message

Alternatively, you can also create a completely new email. I will show you in detail how this works in the tutorial for creating newsletters in GetResponse - the process is exactly the same as with the autoresponders!

When you have selected or created the message, click on "Save and publish" and your autoresponder is ready to be sent! :

It is best to test the whole thing yourself , especially for welcome emails you can simply register for your own newsletter and see whether the dispatch works without any problems.

GetResponse Autoresponder: Video Tutorial

Here you can find the instructions for the autoresponder in the video. Please note that I recorded the video before GetResponse's new design went online - so the menu in the video looks a little different than it currently does. Otherwise nothing has changed!
